Week 5

  Part 1 This week’s reading covered Universal Design for Learning:Guidlines for Accessible Online Instruction (Rogers-Shaw, C., Carr-Chellman, D.d., &Choi 2018).  There were several things that really stuck out to me and connected to the lesson that I am currently working on.   The first connection was the Goldilocks metaphor (Edyburn 2010).  This tied learning to the classic children’s story. Learners need to try multiple avenues until they find the one that works best for them.  Sometimes they need to try several different ones until they find the “just right” one.  In my lesson plan, I present the materials several different ways.  The students will be able to watch exercises stressing proper throwing mechanics, they will have the opportunity to listen to a subject matter expert speak about the importance of and some exercises stressing proper throwing and mechanics, and thirdly they will be presented with a handout that shows in graphic...

 https://create.piktochart.com/output/52193578-my-visual     In the infographic above, I addressed the 3 main points of chapter 5 in How People Learn ( NASEM 2018).  These three ways are retrieval practices, spaced practice and interleaved practice.  All three points concentrate on the best way to aid students with the recall and retention of information.  I tied the three main ideas with Gura's idea of creativity (Gura, 2016).  Gura believes that creativity aids in retention and belongs in all classrooms.  I also tied ISTE standard 6a to this assignment by listing several different technology tools that can be utilized to aid in the retention of content. I learned quite a bit this week.  I love the idea of having students learn the curriculum by exploring multiple avenues.  In my content area, I think that a great assignment that would incorporate all of these aspects would be: having students read a passage from The Grapes of Wrath....

WEEK 2

I.     Authentic Intellectual Work involves the original application of knowledge and is NOT the routine use of facts and procedures. The main difference is that most traditional methods involve rote memorization and recall of facts.  AIW revolves around building knowledge through critical thinking. It is comprised of three main component s according to creators (Newmann, F.M., King, M.B., and Carmichael, D.L. 2007).  Those three components are construction of knowledge, disciplined inquiry, and value beyond school.     Construction of knowledge is using things that the students have learned before to solve new problems. In essence it is increasing knowledge by building off of past experiences.     Disciplined inquiry itself contains three main components. prior knowledge (knowledge that is normally gained through a variety of experiences and basic knowledge), in depth understanding (what the student develops as they look for key facts and concept...

Week 1

      My name is Gina Pope.  I am a has been physical education teacher, a former financial analyst for Walmart Inc, and a current stay at home mom of 5. Now I am looking for a change again.  I have a wide range of interests but one thing that has always been a passion of mine is literature. So my goal is to attain my MEd with a concentration in English.
